Update: Architects of the West Kingdom: Works of Wonder has launched on Kickstarter, and the campaign will run for 15 days. You may pledge for the expansion only, or for the expansion, the Collector's Box and the playmat, or order everything released for Architects of the West Kingdom so far.
Our preview post below was published on July 21.
Works of Wonder is an expansion for the 1-5 player worker placement game Architects of the West Kingdom. You will compete (against an AI) to build five Wonders, while gaining support from the Princess or the Profiteer. It will launch on Kickstarter on July 28.
Works of Wonder comes with a new deck of Apprentices, a deck of Contribution/Consequence cards, 6 new characters, new building cards for the workshop, and the five Wonder buildings. The Wonders can be constructed just like any other building, and each of them is made of a particular resource (brick, wood, marble etc.). When built and placed on the board, they provide benefits to the player who built them.
A new supplemental board will be added next to the main board featuring an Influence track, the Princess and the Profiteer spots, and a space on which to put the Contribution/Consequence cards. At the start of each round, you will flip one Contribution card over to reveal its Consequence side. The Consequence side shows where the Princess and the Profiteer will be located on the board for that round. If you visit e.g. the Princess location with your worker, you can contribute a resource to the construction of a Wonder and gain Influence.
This expansion introduces an all-new solo mode that replaces the one in the base game. It adds 6 AI opponents, each with their own focus and an AI scheme deck. All previously released content for the game will be available during the Kickstarter campaign.
