Unlikely Heroes is a 1-4 player cooperative narrative adventure game that comes in three boxed versions: Vikings, Cowboys, and Pharaohs. It will launch on Kickstarter on June 23.
Each box contains three different Quests, six characters, and more than 40 map tiles. Your heroes may be somewhat clumsy but they still have to carry out heroic deeds. In Vikings, the Quests ask you to search for treasure among the ruins, become a master brewer, or face the living dead. In Cowboys, you set out to capture Billy The Kid, stop a train collision, or find gold. And in Pharaohs, you may try to catch a mummy that escaped from its tomb, find a wedding gift for the Queen-to-be, or help an old friend who got lost in the maze.
After you set up the game and select your characters, you will read the quest requirements. As soon as you complete a quest card, you will read a new card to progress the story, all the while paying attention to clues that the cards may give. Along the way you will encounter enemies and allies, and find food and weapons. You will also need to decide if the heroes will stick together or split and proceed separately. If the pile of luck cards of the heroes ever runs out, you lose the game.
If you acquire all three Unlikely Heroes boxes, the Epic expansion will allow you to combine all of them together into one big story. You may check the Kickstarter Preview.
