Unsettled is a 2-4 player cooperative game of deep space survival. It can be played solo by controlling two (or more) characters, and it is launching on Kickstarter on December 16.
Your goal in the game is to explore uncharted terrain and complete specific missions. For example: find four items that qualify as food, and return to the ship. The map consists of a series of cards that depict various locations. You will have to explore these areas and make scientific discoveries that may or may not benefit you.
The three attributes of each character are: Awareness, Wonder, and Energy, and they are measured by corresponding cubes. Each time you perform an action, you will have to place dice (the Focus dice) in order to use your attributes. For example, if you need to focus your energy on a certain task, you decrease your energy die as you place it on the action. The environment affects your attributes as well: for instance, if an environment is loud, distracting, full of screaming glowfrogs, you lose 2 awareness.
As the game progresses, you will be gaining expertise in the natural and applied sciences. For example, when you meet the aforementioned glowfrogs, you acquire scientific knowledge about them. These pieces of knowledge may be employed to fulfill tasks or even combo with other scientific discoveries. As you explore, you may also get conditions and states (e.g. infection from fungal spores). These will be detrimental to your health but they may also help you navigate the environment more effectively.
Unsettled aspires to give the players a sense of amazement and wonder along with the tension of survival. We'll see how unsettling it is in about ten days.
