The Transcontinental is live (Build the Canadian railroad)

Update: The Transcontinental has launched on Kickstarter and the campaign will run for 30 days. You may pledge for a copy of the game or work with the designer to create your own Investment card.

Our preview post below was published on November 5.

The Transcontinental is a 1-4 player worker placement and bidding game about building the national railroad of Canada in 1871. It will launch on Kickstarter on November 10.

In The Transcontinental, you are playing as a contractor working to connect the eastern provinces with the western ones by railway. You will have 3 telegram cylinders at your disposal which will act as workers to be placed on the board. You will also get a historical figure as an ally that will grant you a special ability. As the train moves along the track, it will stop on the spaces you have placed a cylinder, and you will perform the actions you have selected.

You may choose to load resources (coal, wood, steel or engineers) on the train or unload them: when the train stops at an unbuilt station, you may unload resources on it so you can start building it. The player who has placed the most resources on a built space gains the VP from it.

When the train reaches the end of the line, players will bid resources so that they can extend it. The more tracks get built, the more spaces along the track become unlocked for developing and earning points. In the solo mode, you will be competing against the Hugh Allen Syndicate AI which comes with its own action deck, and you will have to reach 3 different victory conditions in order to beat it.
