The Night Cage is live (The Cage is dark and full of terrors)

Update: The Night Cage has launched on Kickstarter and the campaign will run for 21 days. You may back a copy of the game or go all-in and get the game, an acrylic upgrade kit for tokens and tile holder, a soundtrack, and five LED candle lights.

Our preview post below was published on June 12.

The Night Cage is a 1-4 player cooperative horror game in which prisoners are trapped inside a dark maze with only their candles as light source. It can be played solo by controlling 4 characters, and it will launch on Kickstarter on June 16. (Update June 16: Launch postponed for July 14).

In The Night Cage, each of the four characters can only light the paths that are adjacent and connected to the tile they stand on. As soon someone moves, the space that is not illuminated by the candle disappears (the tile is removed). To win the game, each character has to find one key, and then escape together with the others through a gate.

On each turn, you draw and place as many tiles on the board as the paths shown on the tile you are standing on. If you choose not to move, you gain one 'nerve' but have to sacrifice two tiles from your stack. Nerve can be spent to give you extra movement. The labyrinth is also home to the Waxeaters. If you ever get in their line of sight, your candle goes out and you lose 3 tiles from your stack. This is bad, as the tile stacks work as a timer, and force you to escape before the darkness engulfs everything.
