Dungeon Crawl Seasoning
Our favourite small-box dungeon crawler Mini Rogue is back for “Season 2”. With a stand-alone expansion The Council (1-4 players) and an expansion for this expansion (or for the original game), Mountain of Torments, it promises to spice up the game.
In Mini Rogue you move your character through several levels that each have a grid of nine randomly placed rooms. You’ll explore, fight enemies, evade traps and find loot while rolling dice and carefully using your food and gold. And then, if you survive, there will be an epic end fight.
While you can play The Council on its own, you can also combine the cards with the original base game if you own it. Mountain of Torment adds several modules that make the game harder (Delving cards and Torments), or easier (Cursed Jewelry), add new game elements (Scrolls) or just more variety (rooms, a character and a final boss).
Personal opinion: I’ve played the original 9-card print & play version of this game over 60 times. And while I was in need of some variation after that, the direction in which the full game went was not exactly what I’d hoped for. So do I need expansions? No. Do I want them? Yes. Mini Rogue is good fun, and all the variety Season 2 promises to bring make me look forward to playing it again.
Mini Rogue - Season 2 can be found on Kickstarter and the campaign will run for 13 more days. The original 9-card game is available as well, as are lots of other add-ons, like promos, holo-foil cards, alternate character cards and multi-layered boards (if you missed them during the first Kickstarter campaign). Shipping prices include VAT/taxes for EU and USA.
That's your favorite small-box dungeon crawler!
Mine is obviously One Deck Dungeon. Dice, skills, a rogue-lite progression, it's one of my first solo games ever and has remained among my favorites ever since. I'll never willingly part with it. I did contemplate selling Mini Rogue.
But it has some charm. I got rid of Rogue Dungeon, of Iron Helm, of Tin Helm, but so far, I kept Mini Rogue.
