How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb

Toe-to-Toe Nu'klr Combat with the Rooskies is from the time VPG games had components that were just barely above Print and Play-quality and sent them out in a ziplock bag. If you're a fan of Cloudspire or Tapestry, don't even bother. It's designed by Chris Taylor, who had published Nemo's War with VPG before.

Inspired by a famous movie, we're in the middle of the Cold War - setting out to drop some H-bombs on the Soviet Union. Load up with fuel, pick the bombs to take, get some defense systems prepared and you're off. It's a simple game: adjust altitude if necessary, move your B-52 marker, defend against incoming fire, handle events - then bomb if you see a target. Chits are used to bring uncertainty to your flight. You turn one over every step of the way towards the target. Sometimes you'll get shot at, sometimes you have to draw an event card. Most of the event cards are bad news.

There are four targets, with flight paths varying in difficulty. You can just play one for a game of 10-15 minutes. Or you can play a full campaign taking one hour, tops.

I won the campaign today, dropped a big one on all four main targets and on a lot of other targets along the way. At the end of the campaign my B-52 crashed in Moscow. Crew did not survive. Still a win.

Or was it?
