    A bunch of new acquisitions

    in Your Latest Purchase

Wow, I totally got crazy this month. Sometimes I'm just way off the realm of reason and sanity. Anyway.

Note: all pictures are from BGG.

I picked up two new games (well, three, but you only know about Stardew Valley. I've just depunched it and it's lovely. Let's see next if it's any fun. But I have a large rulebook to go through in the meanwhile.

The other two are Loco Momo (because you all know I can't resist cute animals - besides, I'm fond of tile-laying games) and Balada (despite my overall dislike for roll'n'writes) which was once featured in a Freshly added post. Somehow I find it terribly appealing.

Next, one of my wishlisted games, Super Motherload, popped up twice on the second hand market... For the first time in two years. Weird coincidence. It's a game adapted from a video game, so of course I'm interested! Although it's not listed as soloable, there seems to be an interesting solo variant on BGG, and I strongly hope I'll be able to have fun with them. By the way, the first offer was 50€, from Italy (so lots of shipping fees); I was willing to buy it, but the seller then ignored me. The second was 35€, from France (so lesser shipping fees), and I got it. I surprisingly saved a lot of money.

The next two are Gods Love Dinosaurs and Sojourn, from the same second-hand seller. I was looking for the first one, because even though it's listed as solo, 1) the theme is just too cool and 2) the designer provided a solo variant in the forums. As for Sojourn, it got recommended to me, it's a solitaire-only game, and the theme is nice, so I got it to "save" on the shipping fees.

So far I've only tried Loco Momo, and I'm not disappointed. Rules are learned in 30 seconds, set-up is about as long, and the playtime is below 10 minutes. I like the production choices - rather minimalistic, but all you might need is there, like a cloth bag to draw the tiles or a round marker. No useless plastic anywhere.

It's easy, you pick tiles from the display, and put them on your board to score points according to different scoring conditions. I've played twice, and achieved a score of 61 the second time (1 point away from the ultimate tier). I doubt it will have much replay value as a solo game, but I can play it with younger relatives easily.

Let's play Super Motherload when I get to Belgium! Looks like something I'd enjoy. Let's not play some of the ones I'll leave unnamed.

Well, no shortage of cute critters (I like 'em, too) with Loco Momo. 🙂 I'm finding the artwork of Balada to be interesting.

Employing the "save on shipping fee" thing, huh? I've done that more than once - if I spend just $112 more, I can get free shipping! 😄

It was more 'wow, this is the lowest Gods & Dinosaur has ever reached so far, but since I would be paying 30% of the price on shipping fees, let's see if I can add something cheap from the same seller in the package'. Turned out they had Sojourn which I wanted, so it sealed the deal. I see it as an "added bonus".

@Cadet Stimpy Especially when it features dinosaurs, copters, crusaders, and communists at the same time.
