Never Be Clever

After 1,5 years, or during my sixteenth play, whatever sounds worse, I discovered I had skipped a rule while reading the rulebook. All past scores invalidated. Twice as Clever! suddenly got thrice as hard!

Now you may be thinking I immediately read the rest of the rulebook, to see if I had missed anything else. No, no, not me. There's a real possibility I'll have to invalidate my scores once again after another 16 plays. 😬

So, yeah...

I also begin to suspect that... Which rule did you skip in Pocket Landship that made it so fun? 😉

Maybe you automatically and subconsciously house rule games to make them better. You might have unconscious reflexes of a gifted designer.

😄 Not surprisingly, it was a rules mistake that improved my gameplay for Pocket Landship. The game's rules are simple enough, no mistakes there. But once there was a challenge for the original 9-card game, where you had to bring in the first three enemies as reinforcements (put them back into play). I had missed that you were supposed to do this just once and just kept bringing in reinfocements. After a few plays I managed a session of 45 minutes. It was exhausting and not much fun. But it had taught me an important lesson: the timing of emergency repairs.
