I'm in the process of reviewing the whole series which has 7 volumes so far (the eighth should be published in a few months, I already pre-ordered it of course!).
I think the Rat Queens is a very good series, even if it's not always of the best taste, to say the least. But the characters are strong, have depth, and the story often steer off towards wild, crazy ways that I couldn't expect. Which is what I enjoy most in a story!
I still cannot believe it. Such good news! I guess I'll have to write to Deep Water Games to tell them how happy they just made me. The box art is not great though, but I don't care the slightest!
@Zerbique Glad to get to know you better! I don't have much familiarity with graphic novels but your reviews are wonderful. Let's publish one of your articles when this game is released.
That's a coincidence, for sure, and U B welcome, Z. Are the Rat Queens always the same characters, as seen below, or do the differ from story to story?
The cover you've shown is the cover of Issue #16 of the first run, which is the one and only issue that I haven't read because it didn't get collected (it's actually considered non-canon).
The basic Rat Queens are Hannah, the Elf Mage (not shown on the cover), Dee, the practicer of dark arts (rightmost character), Violet, the Dwarf warrior (the bearded one), and Betty, the Halfling Rogue (hanging on the shoulders of Braga). Later on (that is, from the beginning of the second run) they are joined by Braga, the Orc Barbarian. The leftmost character is, I think, Tizzie, a secondary character that doesn't play a great role in the series.
So, yes, it's always the same bunch of characters, most of them being shown of this cover. The characters are the heart and focus of the series. It's a series about the Rat Queens, not about a specific Fantasy world or whatever world-shattering events.
Added to our forthcoming games list.
I'm in shock.
Rat Queens is my favorite comic series.
I just wrote review of Volume 4 this morning on BGG.
Best KS news of the year.
I thank you many many many times.
Where do you write these reviews, Zerbique? Could you please give a link?
@Athena With great pleasure! I wanted to advertise my "Fantasy comics reviews" BGG thread on the Welcome post JW wrote for me, but I didn't dare.
So here are the links to the Rat Queens reviews:
