Yesterday, it was election day in France! So, I proudly put my "Jedi Knight: Defenders of the Republic" T-shirt on and I went to the polling station to vote.
There, one of the attendants asked me: "Hey, are you free tonight?" Well, it doesn't happen too often that people are trying to flirt with me so that got me suspicious. Facing my silence, the guy kept on: "We need people for the vote counting." Ah, that's better. I absolutely didn't want to do that, I always have too few time on my hands, but I had my Star Wars T-shirt claiming all around I was defending the Republic. So I couldn't just back off at the first sight of civilian duty. I replied: "Er... Okay?" and got enrolled.
So at 8 pm I went out under a heavy rain to go back to the polling station. There I waited 50 minutes for things to actually begin, and then I counted and counted and re-counted pretty much everything. I think the skills I developed in checking components in freshly received second-hand games have never been so solicited.
Finally it felt that being a crazy boardgamer is actually good for society!
